Most probably, he is the Swami Dyananda Saraswati. He founded the Arya Samaj in 1875.
From 1878 to 1882, there existed a Theosophical Society within the Arya Samaj, and it is this group that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad engaged in some debates, which gave him the earliest publicity.
